Purpose Project: Too Much Screen Time

So, for English class, we are doing purpose projects, which are projects that have meaning to us and interest us.  Over the past few weeks, I noticed that I’ve been spending a lot of time on my phone, iPad, and Xbox. This time on my electronics takes up essentially all of my free time, and some of the things that I’ve been meaning to do are getting pushed back.

For example, I have an online driver’s ed course that I have to finish that has been sitting at 15% done for four months. I realized that this purpose project would be a great opportunity for me to see how much time that I actually spend on my electronics, and how I could use that time better.  Also, as it is May and AP season, I need as few distractions as possible.

For my project, I plan to monitor my electronic usage for one week, using the app Moment, and then for the week after, I will go without electronics altogether. I will also have five other pexels-photo.jpgstudents monitor their usage for a week, so I can see where I stand among my peers.  I think that this project will help me spend my time in better places, and open my eyes to how electronics occupy our time.
